FIRE STOPPERS

What to do if your child experiments or acts out with fire:

Some children begin early in life to "act out" with fire, putting the lives and property of their family and neighbors at risk.

Did you know?

  • Eighty percent of all fire deaths occur in the home

  • Each year about 300 people are killed and $280 million in property is destroyed in fires attributed to children playing with fire

  • Deaths due to children playing with fire are particularly avoidable

  • Having a working smoke alarm more than doubles one's chances of surviving a fire.

IF:

  • Your child has ever played with lighters, matches or flammables.

  • Your child has deliberately set anything on fire.

  • Your child displays carelessness or an unhealthy obsession with fire.

  • You are unsure how to present fire safety education to your children.

Shoreline’s Community Education specialist can help!  ANYONE can report an incident involving unsafe fire use and begin the process for referral to the Fire Stoppers program.
