KEROSENE HEATER CAUSE OF FATAL HOUSE FIRE
FEBRUARY 18, 2007

Shoreline Fire investigators say a kerosene heater caused the fire that killed a Shoreline resident early Sunday morning. The fire broke out at 7:40 a.m. Sunday at the home in the 14500 block of 6th Avenue Northeast.

Fire crews arrived at the scene as smoke and flames poured from windows of the two story residence. Neighbors who saw the blaze called 9-1-1 to report it. Several people were outside the home when firefighters arrived, but they left the scene before investigators could question them about the incident.

Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental. They said the victim, a male in his 60's, died in an upstairs bedroom where the kerosene heater was found. The King County Medical Examiner's office has not yet released his identity. The home was gutted. A damage estimate is not available.
