FOUR SHORELINE
HOMES DAMAGED BY BROKEN WATER MAIN
Four
Shoreline families were forced out of their
homes for several days while severe flood damage
is repaired and mud is cleaned up. A damage
estimate is not yet available, but the four
families suffered extensive loss from flooding
that resulted after the break.
The 12-inch water main broke at 3:00 a.m. on
Saturday, December 8, sending a torrent of water
and mud through one home and creating waist-deep
flooding in three others. City of Seattle water
officials estimated that thousands of gallons of
water flowed from the break before it could be
stopped. No one was hurt in the incident.
The water main break, in the area of 195th
and 1st Avenue NW, also destroyed a
portion of the roadway. Crews have been working
to repair the road since Saturday morning.
Detours around the area are still in place.
Shoreline Firefighters, Fred Meyer, and Spiro’s
restaurant all provided assistance to the
families in the form of money for basic
necessities and emergency provisions. Seattle
Water provided hotel rooms for each affected
family for the week.
It is not yet clear when the families will be
able to return to their homes.
