WOMAN SUFFERS MINOR INJURIES IN HOUSE FIRE
MARCH 19, 2006
Firefighters
took one woman to the hospital this afternoon
after she suffered minor burns and smoke
inhalation in a cooking fire in her home.
Fire crews were called to the scene around 4:30
p.m. today. When engines arrived there was
smoke billowing from the roof.Investigators
say it appears the fire started in something
cooking on the stove, and then spread through
the kitchen to the ceiling and into the attic.
Fire crews controlled the blaze quickly, and it
was fully extinguished in about 15 minutes.
Shoreline firefighters remind the public that
cooking fires are a leading cause of damage and
injury across the country. Never leave anything
unattended on a stovetop.
If a stove fire occurs, never try to move
the burning pan, or throw water on it.
If you have a kitchen fire extinguisher, be sure
you are confident enough to use it properly.
Evacuate your family and call 9-1-1 immediately.
